I was sent a link to this article on The New York Times website.  Author Michael Pollan asked readers of his blog to share their rules of food and after receiving over 2500 responses he pick his favorite 20.  There are some wonderfully insightful rules that many of us would benefit from following.

My favorite rule was submitted by Sonya Legg:

Never eat something that is pretending to be

to be more healthful.

something else; e.g. “no textured vegetable protein” or

veggie burger (fake meat), no artificial sweeteners,

no margarine (fake butter), no “low fat” sour

cream, no turkey bacon, no “chocolate-favored sauce” that

doesn’t contain chocolate, no “quorn.”  If I want something

that tastes like meat or butter, I would rather have

the real thing than some chemical concoction pretending
